Newsletter - August
2008
Fellow Acton Curling Club members,
I am sitting on my patio on a nice summer’s eve with the temperature
sitting around 22 degrees. Yet, it is time to start “thinking” about the
upcoming curling season. Below are a few items to keep you up to date.
Registration – Deadline September 26th
New this year, we are asking all returning members to register by Friday,
September 26th. This will enable our league coordinators to start setting
up the leagues. You will also notice that the forms have changed a little
this year. We hope they are self explanatory, but feel free to contact
Jim Henderson at either 905-542-0539 (work) or 905-838-1859 (home), or
via email at membership@actoncurlingclub.com
if you have any questions (or contact any other Board member).
Wine & Cheese – Friday, September 26th
We will once again be having our Wine & Cheese social. This is a
great way to reconnect with your fellow curlers that you may not have seen
over the summer. This is also an opportunity to complete your registration.
The evening will run from 7 until approx. 11 pm. Wine (2 glasses per person)
& cheese will be complimentary. Other drinks will be available at regular
bar prices
ACC Website – www.actoncurlingclub.com
We are now into our second year with our website. We are committed to
making this a valuable resource for all club members, with up-to-date information.
If you have any suggestions on how we can improve this site, please contact
Mary Ellen Difazio. Registration information and a menu of volunteer opportunities
are being posted there. Bookmark this site and use it all season!
New Members - Open House Week – Oct 6-9
We will be changing the format of the Open House week to focus on new
members to the club. The Open House this year is Oct 6-9th. There will
be no ice time for current members during this week.. October 14-17th we
will be running clinics for both beginners, and those that want a refresher.
Ice time will be made available for members to “throw a few rocks” this
week. A schedule will be available at the Wine & Cheese, and will be
posted on our website
Open Board Position - Maintenance
Due to ongoing ailments (his knee), Mike Nevins has decided that he
cannot curl, and as such, has resigned from the Board. Thanks Mike for
all your help this past year. We would like to fill this position as soon
as possible. Anyone interested in helping on the board can contact myself,
or any board member for details – no experience necessary!!!
Swing & Sweep – Saturday, October 18th
Our first official curling event of the season is our annual Swing &
Sweep. This is always a great day where we get to play one of our last
rounds of golf of the season, but our first game of curling. Enter a team,
enter as an individual, we’ll get you involved. Check out the website under
“events” for more details, and contact Barb Thistle to register.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, and see you at the Wine & Cheese,
Dave Rigby,
President

Curling Etiquette
Be ready to start your game at the
designated time. Shake hands before and after each game. Keep the game
moving by being "in the hack" when it is your turn to throw. Winners buy
the first round after the game. Have fun. |
