Acton Curling Club
Newsletter - October 2007

Well, the curling season has officially begun - In typical fashion, it was warmer in the arena than on the golf course for the Swing & Sweep, but we all had a great time! Thanks to Gary Wellon for a great day.

Welcome

I would like to welcome back all returning members, and extend a special welcome to all our new members. I hope you find our club to be very social and fun. In order to keep our ice in top condition, we do recommend you make a small investment in your own broom, and potentially a slider/gripper. These items are available at the bar, or at End Zone Sports (one of our sponsors).

Start Up

As with any new equipment, we hit some "bad ice" with the compressor that put the ice tech team behind. The team has done a great job getting the ice ready for play. I want to thank Jason Vidler for all his work (and patience) as he started up the machine. He has had the phone strapped to his ear getting the right people in to ensure all issues have been resolved, and has worked "extra ends" to make sure we started our season on time.

New Years Eve

We would like to have a New Year's Eve party at the club this year. We are looking for an individual/group to help with organizing this evening. If anyone is interested, please see any board member. And yes, this will count towards your volunteer hours!

Maintenance Position

We still have the Maintenance board position open. This individual would be responsible for ensure all maintenance issues around the club are addressed (not to do all the work themselves). We will also be putting plans together for major projects next summer, and beyond. Please see me if you are interested in helping out.

Business Person Spiel

We have our Business Person spiel coming up on Saturday, November 17th. This is a great opportunity to have some fun with your co-workers and introduce them to our club/curling. See sign up sheet posted in the club or Gary Wellon for more details.

Volunteer Update

We have had a number of people volunteer their time already to help get the club up and running. Thanks to those that have volunteered for Aug/Sept.:

Richard Tousignant, Patsy Tousignant, Steve Difazio, Dawn Rigby, Bruce Garvie, Rick Newman, Wayne Aitken, Mike MacDonald , Dave Patterson, Jeff Newman, Doug Pratt, Jason Vidler, Brian Lafontaine

I would also like to thank your board. Over the past few weeks they have really demonstrated their commitment to this club, and you, the members. There is a lot of planning/organizing required to get the club up and running, and all board members have gone over and above. So a big Thank You from me. The best way for you to show your thanks is to participate in club events, and do your part to volunteer.

For those few people that have yet to pay your dues, please do so A.S.A.P. As of Oct 28th - No Pay, No Play...

Remember to check our website for club updates, league schedules, standings, etc. www.actoncurlingclub.com - for the member only section send an email to webmaster@actoncurlingclub.com if you require the username and password.

Great curling!!

Dave Rigby,

President
